"Firing" isn't a word we picked because it sounded catchy. It's the actual bar we hold ourselves to, and it's the reason we don't text you every time conditions are merely okay.
Every surfer already knows what it means
You don't need it explained. "It's firing" is a specific, understood claim — not "it's surfable," not "there's swell," but genuinely good, worth dropping what you're doing for. That's a high bar, and we think it should stay one.
Why we don't dilute it
It would be easy to send more alerts — mark more days as good enough, catch more attention, look more active. It would also make the word "firing" worthless within a season, the same way a store that's perpetually "on sale" stops meaning anything by that word. We'd rather send fewer texts that are always true than more texts you eventually learn to ignore.
What this means for you
When you get a text from us, it's not a nudge or a maybe. It's us telling you, using a word that already means something in the water, that this is genuinely worth it. That's the whole premise of the product, and it's why we protect the word as carefully as we protect the actual conditions data behind it.
For the flip side of this — why "the forecast said good" doesn't always mean it actually was — see Why Some Days the Forecast Says "Good" But the Surf Is Bad.
We only say it when we mean it.
No hype alerts, no "maybe" texts. When you hear from us, it's real.
